Description of the Business Concept 


The Bakto Flavors Company aims at the production, commercialization and distribution of natural products, mainly flavors, such as vanillin or benzaldehyde.  An innovative manufacturing process, using biotechnology, will be used to produce these natural flavors. This technology are combined with commonly available and, therefore, economical raw materials. This is a cost-effective method of production that would allow the company to compete on price with synthetic vanillin (artificial or imitation vanilla), as well as other biotechnology-produced natural vanillin. The competitive advantages would include patented process innovation, cost-efficient manufacturing technology, consistency in patented process innovation, consistency in product quality, and branding.

The Opportunity and Strategy


There is a growing market preference for natural food products including natural vanillin. However, natural products are found in small amounts in some specific plants (or plant organs). Extraction of these compounds in commercial quantities in not economically feasible. In addition, these compounds are produced abroad, are costly to ship and quantity and quality of the final product cannot be controlled. This adds up to high cost and inconsistent quality and quantity. This is an opportunity for the production of plant products, using biotechnology to provide natural products with consistent quality at a fraction of the cost. Our first product will be natural vanillin.

We discovered new biosynthetic pathways and genes for the production of vanillin we are implementing this information to the production of BK Vanillin, using biotechnology.

The working protocol offers high efficiency in product recovery and a fraction of the production cost compared to other vanillin products. The Economics, Profitability, and Harvest Potential


The US market of synthetic vanillin and of vanilla extract is huge (in the billions) and even larger worldwide. The latest crises in the vanilla industry lead many companies to replaced vanilla extract with other natural flavors. Replacing synthetic vanillin and some of the vanilla bean extract with natural BK Vanillin will only be the start of exploiting an economic opportunity in the natural product market. With today fast growing sequencing of genes it will be easy in short time to produce many plant product that have economic, health and other benefits to people. The sky is the limit.

Natural Preservative (BK Preservatives)

 

Description of the Business Concept 


The Bakto Flavors Company works on screening for natural preservatives from aromatic and medicinal plants, indigenous to Europe and the Middle East.  Work is carried out in collaboration with the ARO, Israel. We found plant species with very high content of anti-oxidants that protect foods and personal products.

 

Bakto Flavors developed an innovative manufacturing process for extraction of natural products from plants. The process makes use of enzymes to recover anti-oxidants. This technology can be used for extraction of other plant-derived materials. It can be applied to the extraction of colors, flavors, pharmaceuticals and other compounds.

 

Our competitive advantage is knowledge of plants, skill in plant production, worldwide contact with growers and novel extraction method.

The Opportunity and Strategy


All food contains some forms of preservative. Preservatives serve as either anti-oxidant or anti-microbial or both. There is a long list of preservatives used in food, some which are very effectives and some which are not. Many of these preservatives cause allergies and other health problems. Plants produce their own anti oxidant and anti microbial agent. We make use of this principle and screen many plants. Our opportunity is the use of a plant extract that are commonly used as foods and extract the natural preservatives from them. There is a growing market need for natural food products including natural preservatives this is an opportunity for the production of preservatives, using biotechnology to provide natural products with consistent quality at a cost that can compete with other synthetics preservatives.

The Competitive Advantages


We discovered new plants containing high amount of antioxidant. We will make use of a new extraction technology. We are offering few different product lines: water-soluble, oil soluble, clear and odorless product.  

 

The working protocol offers high efficiency in product recovery.  We will capitalize on the market preference for natural strong preservatives and offer a product line with high and consistent quality at a competitive cost.  

 

BK Preservative may be labeled as Natural Plant Extract, Natural Flavor, or used as a processing aid.
